Resumen: The general objective of this study was to develop a strategy with the settlers neighboring to Carara National Park in the Costa Rica Central Pacific, for to propose an environmental education program for the Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) protection. The specific objectives were: 1) to identify the knowledge and believes of the settlers of the Tárcoles and Quebrada Ganado communities about the Scarlet Macaw. 2) To identify the elements for to integrate in the environmental education program, and 3)to design a plan of communitary environmental education for the Scarlet Macaw protection, to direct to neighbor settlers to Carara National Park. To apply a search to a representative sample of young and adults of the Tárcoles and Quebrada Ganado communities for to obtain information about knowledge and believes of diverse aspects of the Scarlet Macaw in the zone for both target groups. With information-based on the search compare young and adults and to find knowledge and similar believes in both groups. To continuation to execute participate workshops for each target group: children, young and adults for to offer new knowledge for to change believes to affect the conservation of the Scarlet Macaw in the study area. Intervening evaluation instruments and criterion definite during the development of the research to evaluate the results of the activities execute for to compare the results obtained with the objectives and proposed goals and to effect the necessary adjustment for to continue the proposedprogram. To continuation to propose a communitary environmental education play for the conservation of the Scarlet Macaw in the area of the Carara National Park of Costa Rica
